Unit of Competency:

CUVDIG502A Investigate technologies for the creation of digital art

Unit Description:

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to research and explore technologies available to artists working in any digital media. Given the rapid pace of change, one focus of the unit is on maintaining currency.

 

Application of the Unit:

Any practitioner who produces creative digital media work applies the skills and knowledge in this unit. Work could be completely digital or an integration of digital and traditional media.
Technology exploration at this level is a largely independent activity with mentoring and guidance as required. It would normally include investigation of a range of technologies and processes to develop an individual professional style.

Assessment Overview:

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Evidence of the ability to:

  • apply knowledge of digital technologies and how they may be used and adapted at a professional level
  • evolve and refine ways of working with technologies through a demonstrated process of experimentation
  • integrate technologies into own work in a way that supports coherence of the creative work
  • demonstrate technical proficiency in the use of selected digital technologies
  • use safe and sustainable work practices.

 


Subject Information

Delivery methods:

This Subject will be delivered through a variety of methods: lecture, presentation of online content, class discussion, workshop projects and activity, reflective and analytical writing exercises, problem-based learning as an individual, group collaboration and participation in projects.

Total Unit Hours: 63 hrs

Class Time: 56 hrs in class

Activity: 7 hrs project time

Assessment Methods:

  • Direct observation of class activities and project work
  • Regular review (in class) of blog and class exercises for progressive assessment
  • Oral questioning and/or discussion
  • Written reports and presentations developed for assessment tasks
  • Review of artworks and creative content presented in class

 

Assessment Rules

This subject is assessed on an ongoing basis via a variety of tasks and activities. If you do not submit adequate work by due dates you will not be able to complete the Unit of Competency.

Attendance & Participation

Failure to attend and participate in the scheduled classes & project hours in this unit of study will seriously jeopardise your chances of a successful outcome. Students are strongly encouraged to keep in touch with their teachers and education managers if experiencing any difficulties in this regard.

 

Resources Required

  • Access to computer, Internet connection and software for for email, digital imaging, document production and web access via browsers for research.
  • Personal creative media materials such as art/design materials, drawing paper, etc.
  • Portable USB Stick or Hard Disk Drive (minimum 16GB recommended)
